Instagram highlights, collections of stories permanently displayed on a user’s profile, do not offer viewers a detailed list of everyone who has seen them. Unlike regular Instagram stories which provide a viewer list for a 24-hour period, highlights only show the total number of views. An individual user’s view is not specifically identifiable within that aggregate number.
This design choice maintains a degree of privacy for viewers. Users can engage with content without the explicit knowledge of the profile owner that they have done so. This feature fosters a more relaxed browsing experience, encouraging users to explore content without the pressure of having their viewing activity tracked by specific accounts. The evolution of story features from ephemeral content to permanently featured highlights balances user engagement and privacy considerations.
